Metal Oxide Varistors (MOVs)are rated for specific AC line operating voltages, and exceeding these limits through the application of a sustained abnormal over-voltage condition could result in overheating and damage to the MOV. The Littelfuse TMOV25S™ (Thermal MOV) Series was designed to address this condition in a single integrated package. The Littelfuse TMOV25S™ Series incorporates a patented integrated thermally responsive element within the body of the device which will open-circuit the varistor in case of overheating due to abnormal over-voltage events. The TMOV25S™ Series is based on the Littelfuse UltraMOV™ 25S Series which meets the surge suppressor component recognition requirements of UL 1449 3rd edition for both cord connected and permanently connected TVSS end products. UL1449 3rd Edition approval of TMOV25S Series is currently pending related to the integrated thermal element of this series and product release is anticipated for summer or 2011. Please contact your Littelfuse product representative to discuss alternatives and for additional information.

NLS series fuses provide low cost protection for general-purpose feeder and branch circuits when available short circuit currents are less than 50,000 amperes. They replace all Class H fuses which have only a 10,000 ampere interrupting rating. They are suitable for use in many residential and smaller commercial and industrial applications. NLKP series fuses are Canadian “Code” fuses specifically designed to meet Canadian Electrical Code Type P fuse requirements for residential use. They have a 10,000 ampere interrupting rating. However, to obtain the added benefits of time-delay, current-limitation, and higher interrupting rating, consider the use of POWR-PRO™ IDSR Indicator™ fuses for circuits between 250 and 600 volts. The user gets all the benefits of time-delay RK5 fuses plus the added benefits of a n indicating fuse that tells when it has opened. Complete information on these fuses may be found in the POWR-PRO™ section of this catalog. For circuits up to 250 volts, see FLNR fuses in this section of the catalog.

The Littelfuse Industrial TMOV34S® series thermally protected varistor represents a new development in circuit protection. It consists of a 34mm square format varistor element ( MOV) with an integral thermally activated element designed to open in the event of overheating due to abnormal over-voltage, limited current conditions. Certain TMOV34S devices are offered with a "monitor" lead which may be connected to signalling circuity to indicate if the MOV has been disconnected from the circuit. TMOV34S Series devices offer quick thermal response due to the close proximity of the integrated thermal element to the MOV body. The integrated configuration also offers lower inductance than most discreet solutions resulting in improved clamping performance to fast over voltage transients. UL1449 3rd Edition approval of TMOV34S Series is currently pending related to the integrated thermal element of this series. Contact your Littelfuse product representative to discuss alternatives and for additional information.

The MLA Automotive Series of transient voltage surge suppression devices is based on the Littelfuse Multilayer fabrication technology. These components are designed to suppress a variety of transient events, including those specified in IEC 61000-4-2 or other standards used for Electromagnetic Compliance (EMC). The MLA Automotive Series is typically applied to protect integrated circuits and other components at the circuit board level. The wide operating voltage and energy range make the MLA Automotive Series suitable for numerous applications on power supply, control and signal lines. The MLA Automotive Series is manufactured from semiconducting ceramics, and is supplied in a leadless, surface mount package. The MLA Automotive Series is compatible with modern reflow and wave soldering procedures. It can operate over a wider temperature range than Zener diodes, and has a much smaller footprint than plastic-housed components.
