The SPD Type 2, 40kA is engineered for the dissipation of voltage surges and adheres to the standards set forth in EN/IEC 61643-11, along with UL 1449 4th Edition certification. It is intended for deployment as the second line of defense in supply distribution panels where Type 1 devices are installed upstream. This device can also serve as the primary protection in commercial applications that are not subjected to direct lightning strikes and lack an external lightning protection system.

With a maximum discharge current of 40kA per phase and a nominal discharge current of 20kA, this SPD features a wide operational voltage range including 48V, 60V, 120/208V, 230/400V, 277/480V, and higher. The device is equipped with a maximum operating temperature of 85 °C and can function effectively in environments as cold as -40 °C.

For surge current ratings, it supports a short circuit current rating (SCCR) of 50 to 100 kA, with a short circuit withstand current (ISCCR) of 25 kA. The torque rating is specified at 35.4 lb-in, ensuring secure installation. The device has a response time of 25 ns, with maximum continuous operating voltages (MCOV) of 275 V for line-to-ground and 550 V for line-to-line configurations. Additionally, it includes a backup fuse rated at 125 A gG.

Constructed from PA66 CT1 housing material with a V-0 flame rating, this SPD accommodates wire types ranging from 6 to 35mm² for rigid wires and 6 to 25mm² for stranded wires.
