Établissement français du sang (EFS) is the sole public blood transfusion service operator in France, overseeing national blood collection, qualification, and distribution for public and private healthcare facilities. Operating through 13 regional establishments and over 100 blood donation centers across France and French overseas territories, the organization ensures national self-sufficiency in blood products. EFS collects and processes blood, plasma, and platelets into essential transfusion products while managing strategic national blood reserves. Beyond transfusion services, the organization produces specialized diagnostic reagents, biological resources, and human tissues and cells for transplantation. Through its advanced bioproduction facility, EFS develops and manufactures innovative cell therapies and advanced therapy medicinal products for complex treatments. The public health institution also supplies plasma to pharmaceutical partners for blood-derived drug manufacturing and operates specialized outpatient care centers. Furthermore, EFS provides specialized medical biology testing, transfusion consulting for healthcare professionals, and healthcare training via Campus EFS.
