SMC-50 Analog I/O Option Module: 2 analog inputs (voltage or current) and 2 analog outputs (voltage or current)
The Allen-Bradley 150-SM3 is a specialized analog input/output (I/O) option module designed as an accessory for the SMC-50 series of smart motor controllers (soft starters). This module expands the functionality of the SMC-50 controller, allowing it to integrate with more complex control systems and respond to analog process variables.
The primary function of the 150-SM3 is to provide the host SMC-50 controller with analog signal processing capabilities. It features two analog inputs and two analog outputs, which can be configured for either voltage or current signals (e.g., 0-10V or 4-20mA).
This functionality allows for advanced motor control strategies beyond simple start/stop commands. For instance, the analog inputs can be used to control the motor's speed or torque based on feedback from process sensors, such as pressure transducers or flow meters. The analog outputs can be used to send motor status information, like speed or current draw, to a PLC, a digital display, or a data logging system.
The module is designed for easy installation directly onto the SMC-50 controller. An SMC-50 can accommodate up to three of these or other SMC-50 option modules, providing significant flexibility for customized applications.
