The Beckhoff EK1100 EtherCAT Coupler serves as the essential link between the EtherCAT high-speed fieldbus and Beckhoff's modular EtherCAT Terminals. It efficiently converts incoming EtherCAT telegrams from the standard Ethernet 100BASE-TX physical layer into the E-bus signal format, enabling seamless communication with the connected terminal blocks. A complete EtherCAT station begins with the EK1100 coupler, which can then interface with up to 65,535 individual EtherCAT Terminals. These terminals are automatically identified and mapped into the controller's process image, simplifying configuration and data exchange. The EK1100 features two RJ45 sockets, providing flexible networking options.The primary (upper) Ethernet interface connects the coupler to the EtherCAT network.The secondary (lower) socket allows for the daisy-chaining of additional EtherCAT devices within the same network segment, eliminating the need for external switches in many linear topologies.For more complex network structures like line or star topologies, EtherCAT junctions (e.g., EJxxxx) or extensions (e.g., EK1122) can be easily integrated. The maximum segment length between EtherCAT devices is up to 100 meters.
