The Class 3400 Smart Meters (H34) incorporate advanced dual protocol communications, allowing for simultaneous interaction with up to two energy monitoring systems. These systems can include Building Automation Systems (BAS) for energy monitoring, billing programs, and Measurement & Verification (M&V) reporting tools. An optional feature package expands functionality with built-in load control and two pulse outputs for kWh and kVARh measurement.

Equipped with a large 4-line LCD display that includes a backlight for enhanced visibility, the device supports RS485 and Ethernet communications. This fully electronic meter operates under rigorous standards, meeting ANSI C12.20 and UL/CUL regulatory approvals. With a maximum operating ambient temperature of 122 °F (50 °C) and a minimum of -4 °F (-20 °C), it is suitable for diverse commercial and industrial environments.

The Class 3400 supports both single-phase and two-phase configurations, utilizing split-core current sensors that provide accurate readings within ±1% across the full load range. It is designed to monitor 3200 A with input voltage configurations of either 3 or 4 wire, and operates at frequencies of 50 Hz or 60 Hz, ensuring compatibility with a variety of electrical systems.
